Halloween - The Process

Posted by Jill Rule Categories:

This week has been an eventful one here at the Rule household.  We have been carving pumpkins, Kayleen went to the Pumpkin Patch wtih her Girl Scout troop, and yesterday we had fun at Jeremy's office and in the neighborhood trick-or-treating.  Here is a rundown of the festive process (sorry, this is a long blog post):

Alexander attached to his pumpkin.

Now, let's see how this tastes.  He spit it out right after this shot.  :-)

Kayleen was excited to start the carving as well.  I told them I'd have the pumpkins all ready before they got home from school.

Kids during the carving process.  Alex really wanted to have his picture taken while he stuck his head in the pumpkin.

Ethan busy picking out pumpkin seeds for roasting.  Too bad Dad burned them all when he tried to cook them.  :-(

Objective complete!  Ethan said his guy has a beard under the mouth and a pimple above the right eye.  Funny what kids can come up with.

Kayleen and Ethan made all sorts of hanging decorations for the house and their rooms.

Our Crew: Dinosaur, Witch, and Jet Fighter

Alexander wanted to make sure we took a picture of his tail.  Then he runs to the camera and says, "Let meeee seeeeee the picture."

Here is a gem.  Kayleen wrote this note as I was trying to get the kids in their costumes.  We were headed down to Jeremy's office at Microsoft to enjoy the festivities.

In the lobby at SAMM D, Microsoft, Issaquah, WA.

Many employees had candy in their cubicles for the kids to trick-r-treat indoors.  It's a great event Microsoft has had for the past few years.  They have fun things for the kids to do, dinner in the cafeteria for everybody, and even a Haunted House!

Well, some people weren't at work anymore, so they just left plates or bowls at their cubicles for the kids.

Having fun with Dad (Jeremy) while Mom (Jill) went to food for everybody.

"You..must...look...at...the...camera..."  :-)

SUGAR HIGH!!!!

Skate Night

Posted by Jill Rule Categories:
Last night our church, Summit Community Church, rented out Skate King; a local skating rink.  We invited Jeremy's brothers and their wives, Sam and Robyn, and Timothy and Yara to see if they wanted to join the fun.  It was the first time any of our kids had been up on real roller skates, in a rink environment.  They had blast, as did the adults.  :-)  Please excuse the poor photography.  The lighting was really low, and it wasn't until the end of the night till I realized how to set the camera options to optimize picture quality.

Jeremy and Alexander.  Alex was quite excited to be going skating.

Kayleen was starting to get the hang of it, unfortunatly much of the night was spent on the floor.  ;-(

Uncle Timothy and Jeremy think they still have game.

Jill and Alex making their way around the edge of the rink...very slowly.

Ethan was a bit shaky at first, but then managed to make laps around the rink...by holding onto the edge.  hehe

Jeremy and Jill

Uncle Sam and Aunt Robyn mosey onto the skating floor.

Uncle Sam and Kayleen heading towards the finish line...oh okay, not really.

Ethan making his way around the rink.  He even kept track of his laps.  ;-)

"Don't forget us!"  Cousins Thomas and Violet joined in on the fun also.  Notice them standing up against the 70's style rink benches?  Classic!

Alexander had a great time "skating" around the carpeted area.  This picture is kind of neat.  It is all yellowed out (by accident) and looks like it's actually from the 70's, I guess the in-line skates give it away.  Darn!

Aunt Yara, Cousin Thomas, and Uncle Timothy

We all really invaded that table.  LOL

In an attempt to stay current with our blog, I'm going to really try to post pictures weekly.  They may not be that interesting, but hey, it's a "Day in the Life" type of thing.  Here are a few from today, and the past few weeks.

Alexander in "Big Boy" undies...(we're trying really hard).

Crazy Hair Day

Posted by Jill Rule Categories:
Welcome October!  I guess I had better get my monthly post in. LOL  I keep "thinking" I need to get a post up here, but then get busy.  My goal was to post every week...whoops!

This week the kids school has it's one and only fundraiser, the Walk-A-Thon.  In an effort to raise the level of "fun" this week is Spirit Week.  Today was Crazy Hair/Hat/Socks day.  The kids just get so excited.  Alex insisted he have a "mohawk" as well, and that he wanted, "the junk" in it.  "The junk" was the orange hair gel.

And a "crazy" shot for giggles.

Camping with Our Church

Posted by Jill Rule Categories:
Well, Jill's just about had it with this blogging software.  She just made a long blog, with lots of pictures and it got timed out and it ate her post.  :-(  Let's try this again, with the shorter version.  :-)

On Thursday August 21st, Jeremy left for a massive, multi-state business trip, and Jill and the kids left for a 3 night camping trip with our church.  Each family had their own sites, but we got together for a few meals and fellowship.  We were sad to not have Jeremy there.  We still had a fun (but exausting) time though.  We set up camp along the shores of Mayfield Lake at Ike Kinswa State Park (Mossyrock, WA).  The drive was long, but fun at the same time.  Jill loves to take the back roads so we got to go through Enumclaw, Buckley, Eatonville, etc.

The kids were about to go tubing, and jetskiing for the first time ever.  What fun!

So, here are just a few pictures.  Come on over to Jill's Facebook Albums for a bunch more photos of our weekend!  :-)

Alexander, Kayleen, and Ethan on the shore of Mayfield Lake.

Ethan did such a great job at making fires for us at night and in the morning!

What a big boy!

Tubing Time!

MUST HAVE COFFEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why yes, that is a "camping" french press.  HA!

Jill hanging out with the boys.

Yesterday was our 13th wedding anniversary!  After a relaxing dinner by the golf course we went up to Rattlesnake Lake and just walked around for a little while....no kids!!!!  :-)

Lake Quinault Rule Family Trip - 2008

The Rule family trip was held at Lake Quinault once again this year.  It just wasn't the same without Andrew, Christine, thier kids, and Daniel.  I've posted quite a bit of pictures here.  But nothing compared to how many we took over the few days we were there.  :-)

Kayleen and Chloe hanging out in the raft.

Could life get any better?  Alex eating breakfast overlooking the calm lake in the morning.

HUH?  Fully clothed?

Evening down by the fire.

Kayleen hanging out by the dock...notice there is no larger floating dock area this year.  That was disappointing.

Josiah and Alex hanging out.

Thomas crawling!!

Action shot!  Kayleen hung out by the rafts almost the entire time.

Uncle Peter says, "Three free hits."

It's tradition to have a stair shot of kids, so here it is.  :-)  Darius and Alex.

Awww, Thomas is getting to big!  He was in such good spirits at the lake!

And the last set of pictures are a before and after photo shoot.

Alexander Turns 3

Posted by Jill Rule Categories:
Alex's 3rd birthday was today (Happy Birthday to Aunt Robyn also!!!).  The time has gone by too fast.  I really can't believe my "baby" is three years old.  We did something a bit different this year.  We took him to the toy store and just let him pick out a few things.  Alex loved going to the toy store and actually getting to pick out his own items.  Here are a few pictures from the day.

It's so very hard to see my baby as a big boy now.  He's lost his "baby" face.

Ethan's old bike was passed down with new training wheels added today!

We're lovin' the bubbles this summer!

Alex loves his new basketball hoop.  Finally, one for his size!

Oh yes, and our new fake smile.

Kayleen was so cute.  She just had to buy cake mix at the store and make Alex a cake...in her Easy Bake Oven.  LOL  This is how it turned out:
Would you like some cake with your icing?  Alex was thrilled though.  Kayleen was so proud to put three candles on the "cake" for him.

Here are a few more pictures from the days leading up to the 4th, and the night of the 4th:

July 1st - the kids pulled out the left over fireworks from last year.

Even all decked out in camo, she's a beauty.

Alexander gets his first sparkler lesson.  As you can see, he's not too sure about it.

He only held it for about a second, and then he threw it down and spent the rest of the time here:

4th of July Evening

Watching the display.

We ended the night on a fun note.  Alex did two of the larger sparklers himself!

It is H-O-T Hot Today!

Posted by Jill Rule Categories:
Today was a really hot day here.  The temps were in the low 90's, ouch!  We even decided to turn on the a/c in the house as the low night temp won't be low enough to cool the house off.  Yippie, it still works - we haven't used it in two years and I was a bit worried.  I'm happy it's back up and running.

I am so glad to be posting on the blog more.  I can't believe how many weeks we went without posting.  For shame!  :-)  I still can't seem to post thumbnails of the pictures with our blog  software, sorry about that.

Fun in the Back Yard

Alex, are you hot enough yet?

On our travels today, Kayleen and I stopped at Home Depot and bought new swings!  Ethan  umped on the two old ones and the rusted chains broke!   The new ones are heavy duty, and are supposed to hold up to 350lbs!  LOL  The Kayleen and Ethan are excited because the swings fit them better.

Alex loves to twisty swing.

Awwww......

Last, but not least, Alex wore "trainer" undies for some of the day yesterday!  He's pretty excited.  But we're not in those all day yet.  Just the days when we are around the house most of the day.
